Every year between 3 and 10 percent of school-age children in this country are diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Increasingly, families are using natural or complementary therapies to improve their child’s attention or behavior, and often seek advice from an integrative pediatrician, according to a new study by researchers at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
Sometimes it’s unnecessary to take medicine for light ADHD when all it takes is a healthy breakfast and some celery sticks. Although this is not always the case, those who have trouble focusing due to ADHD/ADD should try living a steady and healthy lifestyle, keeping it consistent daily. Making small choices like taking an apple instead of a bag of potato chips does make a difference. The point is to start somewhere.
Nick Jonas Talks About Walking for Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes affects all ages: children, teens, and adults. Today, 3 million Americans have Type 1 Diabetes, and each day 80 people get diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Having diabetes can be very upsetting, especially for adolescents who try to “fit in” withe the crowd at school.
“A cure would give us freedom to carry on a normal life without taking a break to check our blood or have a snack.” - Asa Kelly, 16, North Carolina
“Both children and adults like me who live with type 1 diabetes need to be mathematicians, physicians, personal trainers, and dieticians all rolled into one. We need to be constantly factoring and adjusting, making frequent finger sticks to check blood sugars, and giving ourselves multiple daily insulin injections just to stay alive.” - JDRF International Chairman Mary Tyler Moore

Once in a while, we see commercials of children going hungry. After a few days, the majority of us will completely forget about them. Then we see homeless people on the streets, bonier than ever. We know that people can starve. But what isn’t well known is that now, for the first time, there are over 1 billion people who are chronically hungry. What you also may not have known is that there are over 1 billion people who use the internet. We can’t just forget about this. So, what can you do?
http://www.1billionhungry.org/ Sign this petition to put pressure on politicians to end hunger. There is more than enough food to go around, and tons that are wasted every year. The 1 billion online can reach out to the 1 billion going hungry, and through numbers, we CAN end world hunger.
Many rural people, especially young men and women, are leaving their families looking for a better life in the city. Almost always they end up working in poorly paid or dangerous jobs, if they find any work at all. They don’t find relief from hunger. They find the slums.
Cities are expanding constantly. In the year 2000 nearly two billion people lived in cities, by 2030 this figure will have more than doubled. As the cities expand, the number of urban poor people will rise. Obviously urban hunger and access to affordable food in cities are going to be increasingly important issues.
